Show B.A.C. Ties Dixie In Hard Fought Game Here Saturday A 19-19 tie was the final result of a hard fought football battle waged between the Dixie Fliers and the Branch Aggies last Saturday. Sat-urday. Coach Lloyd Shields' boys showed the best ball they have ever played, and while tied, held the upper hand throughout the contest. An apparent Dixie victory was turned into a tie in the last few minutes of the 4th quarter when an incomplete B.A.C. pass was recovered re-covered by the Aggies and carried car-ried over for a touchdown. The extra point, made by a drop kick, tied the score. The Fliers made a desperate effort to regain their lead; although a number of brilliant bril-liant line plays gave them valuable valu-able yardage, the final gun found them outside scoring distance. The Dixie eleven outplayed the Aggies throughout the game. The first touchdown was made early in the 1st quarter by Dixie. A try for the extra point was unsuccessful. unsuc-cessful. A series of line plunges and end runs soon found Dixie again within scoring territory, and a completed pass carried by Blake Empey resulted in a second touchdown touch-down for the Fliers. A line buck gave them the extra point. The 1st quarter ended 13-0 for Dixie. Football (Continued from first page) 19, Westminister at Dixie; November No-vember 21, Mesa at Dixie. B.A.C. scored in the 2nd quarter and by the 3rd quarter the score was 13-12 for the Flyers. In the latter part of this period the ball was carried over the goal line by George Jay, Dixie quarterback, and until the last few minutes of the 4th quarter the score stood 19-12, for the home team. With only a few minutes to go. the Aggies attempted a long pass. Bennett, of Dixie, knocked the ball before it reached the B.A.C. receiver. The ball hit the knee of a B.A.C. player, bounded into the arms of Peterson of B.A.C. and was carried over for a touchdown. The extra point tied the game. The Dixie boys played outstanding outstand-ing ball throughout the game. Their line was functioning perfectly per-fectly and consistently opened holes through the B.A.C. line for the backfield men. The Fliers far outdistanced the Aggies in first downs and yardage. The next Dixie-B.A.C. game will be played at Cedar City on Armistice day, November 11. |
