Show National Aims Discussed Here At Legion Meeting Hurricane Sets National Record In Membership Drive; Convention Ends With Banquet The American Legion district convention officially opened at 2 p.m. at the meeting held in the Wadsworth Theatre building. Adjutant Ad-jutant Otto Wisely gave a report of the New York convention and the 1937-38 four-point program was discussed by Henry Bundy of Ogden. Reports from the various post commanders showed that Hurricane Hurri-cane had established the outstanding outstand-ing record of going over their membership quota of 300. Legion members declare that so far as is known there has never been another post that came anywhere near equalling this record. In presenting the program for the coming year, the members were urged to give the Universal Service act their wholehearted cooperation. co-operation. The national organization organiza-tion has taken this as the big problem of the year, speakers told those present. Banquet At Arrowhead One hundred and thirty-five attended at-tended the banquet held in the Arrowhead Hotel at 6 p.m. Gordon Mathis was toastmaster. Toasts were given by Mrs. Violet Esplin to the men and by E. W. Simmons Sim-mons to the ladies. Short talks were given by Colonel Colo-nel Slade, of South Dakota, Otto Wisely of Salt Lake City, Henry Bundy, of Ogden and Mrs. Ora Lewis, Logan, Legion Auxiliary department commander. Musical numbers included vocal solos by Alma Clark and Dilworth Snow, instrumental trio number played by Errl J. Bleak, Vera Christian and Irene Everett, accompanied by Thelma Bleak. Community singing was led by Mae Pace. |
