Show St. George Wards Reorganize Sunday Morning Fourth Ward To Be Known As Center Ward; Population About Equal The reorganization of the three St. George wards took place at a special meeting during quarterly conference Sunday at 9 a.m., with Pres. Harold S. Snow in charge. A new fourth ward has been created to be known as the Center Cen-ter ward, with division lines in the city to more equally establish the numerical membership of the four wards. The west ward now extends from the southeast corner of the countv court house block west ward along the north boundary of highway 91 to the west ridge and north to the city limits and from the same starting point north along first east to include all the Mt. Hope area and westward. This ward has a membership of 800. The bishopric includes James Andrus, bishop, with Grant Whitehead, White-head, first and Albert Anderson, second counselors and Anthony Pendleton, clerk. The south ward begins at the intersection of highway 91 and Main street and covers the area westward along the south boundary bound-ary of highway 91 and south and on the east boundary extends south to the coiner of Second South, thence west one block, thence south to the city limits, including a few families living across the river, having a membership mem-bership of 763. Bp. Andrew McArthur Mc-Arthur is retained as bishop with Ellis Everett as first and Lewis Pectol. second counselors and Rudy Lortz. clerk. The center ward includes the two tiers of blocks west of East Temple street excepting that sec-(Continued sec-(Continued on page six) Wards Reorganize (Continued from first page) in the west ward and takes in the blocks south of the intersection intersec-tion of Main and 200 South, west one block and south, with a membership of 758. Byron Taylor, is bishop; Leo G. Smith, first and Arlo Prisbrey, second counselors, with Lenzi Sullivan, clerk. In the east ward is all the area east of East Temple street, with a membership of 727. Wilford Schmutz is bishop; with Arthur Cottam retained as first counselor and Paul C. Seegmiller, second counselor, and Clair S. Terry, flprlr The new setup releases Boyd Dennett from the former west ward bishopric, George Brooks from the former south ward bishopric and A. K. Hafen and E. Eric Snow from the east ward bishopric. The center ward alone has an entirely new setup of officers, of-ficers, who have not had previous experience in this type of work. At the meeting held at 9 a.m. Sunday people were permitted to express their views regarding the propose ddivisions. It means that only the south ward at present has its own chapel and that the other three wards must provide their buildings eventually. For the present the west ward will continue con-tinue to meet in the Elementary building; the center ward will use the Tabernacle building and the east ward will use the .Dixie college building. While this means the separation of many friends used to working in church auxiliaries, it will provide pro-vide opportunity for new friendships friend-ships and new vitality in each ward, and greater opportunity for use of ward members in carrying on the work. The old south ward has been about the largest ward having had a membership of almost al-most 1300. It is felt that this new setup has been wisely made and will work out well in the future. |
