This will be the first of sixteen scheduled pre-season games for the team.- A. K. Hafen, president of the Utah foreign language organization, organiza-tion, was recently elected vice-president vice-president of the similar organization organiza-tion of 12 Pacific coast states, it was made known upon his return to the convention in Los Angeles. This unit is part of a national organization for the improvement improve-ment of instruction in the foreign languages. A member of the University Uni-versity of Washington faculty was chosen president. v "Headed for Eden", a comedy drama by Sidney Duvall, has been selected as the student body competitive com-petitive play, Director B. Glen Smith announced Wednesday. Tryouts will be held the latter part of this month, and the play will be produced in January. The college athletes have started start-ed basketball practice this week. A large squad is trying out, and Coach Tolman will soon be able to state his prospects. The football squad has to be content with third place in the conference standing, following its defeat at the hands of Mesa last Thursday, 26-0. By winning this game, Mesa won the conference championship, with Weber gaining gain-ing second place. Dixie beat out Ricks, B.A.C., Carbon, Snow and Westminster in the league standing. stand-ing. The boys played good ball at Grand Junction, but they were too badly crippled to make a championship showing. The team reports, however, that the Mesa squad is a real ball team and well-coached. It had a big weight advantage over Dixie, too. Mesa made all its scores the first half. Dixie managed to hold them on even terms the second half. Bennett, G. Heaton and Turner stood out for the Dixie team. The college and community feel well satisfied with the showing of our football boys this year, both in college and high school. |
