Show Fire Destroys Partly Constructed Home of Arland Udell A fire, which got beyond control before it was discovered, destroyed destroy-ed the home of Arland Udell this morning. The home was under construction with the walls, roof and part of the finishing work completed. It is believed that the fire originated from a home made oil burner. Since the house was not occupied at the time, a definite clue to the origin of the fire is not known. Although 17 of the 21 firemen turned out with the alarm, the fire was beyond control so that very little could be done to save the property. In addition to that the firemen were just able to reach the building with their hose due to the long distance to a hydrant. Since there were no windows in the building, the fire burned rapidly as it sucked the air through the openings. The fire was not discovered until it prac-(Continued prac-(Continued on page eight) Fire Destroys Home (Continued from first page) tically gutted the building. "If we had been on the spot the minute the fire alarm was turned in, we couldn't have saved the building", said Julio Paolassio, city fire chief. |
