Show Agricultural Group Elects Officers For Districts County committeemen for the Washington County Agricultural Conservation Association were elected by conservation farmers meeting in their districts, according accord-ing to Anson B. Call Jr., county (agricultural agent. Committeemen elected to serve during 1938 are: Wilford A. Schmutz, St. George district; George O. Holt, Enterprise district; dis-trict; R. P. Woodbury, Hurricane district; George H. Lytle, Arizona Strip. In introducing the 1938 program at the meetings, the county agent said there were limits to what it can do. It is primarily a conservation con-servation program and cannot alone prevent burdensome surpluses sur-pluses nor does it provide a means for storing reserves so that they will not depress prices. Nor can it fully insure a farmer against crop losses. The program can, however, help raise farm income by helping farmers far-mers to produce more economically, economic-ally, by providing conservation payments and by improving the soil so that it can produce more when needed. In addition, for some crops it indirectly influences volume and therefore the prices of these crops. Mr. Call reports that many feel that the 1938 conservation program pro-gram will fit Utah farms better than ever, while the range program pro-gram provides larger allowances on the poorer land where improvement improve-ment is needed the most. |
