Show LEGIONNAIRES LIST PROJECTS A T DIST CONV'T SATURDAY As part of the District Convention Conven-tion held in Hurricane Saturday, January 11, each post commander was requested to list the various community service activities that his post was engaged in, reports Commander Mathis. In telling of the various ones listed by the posts Mr. .Mathis states that he was delighted to learn of the many worth while projects pro-jects that the Legion organizations are furthering. At the same time he declares that here wasn't any other post that had a better one than the St. George post, namely, the securing of equipment for an up-to-date fire department. Attention is called by Mr. Math-is Math-is to the need for help in this undertaking. un-dertaking. A considerable sum of money will have to be raised, which the Legion and Auxiliary will attempt to raise in various ways. Not only will they need the support of the people in paying a small assessment on their property proper-ty in proportion to the assessed value, but it will also be necessary to sponsor various types of entertainment en-tertainment sponsored by the Legion Le-gion or Auxiliary would have as its paramount importance the giving giv-ing of full value for the money paid. In speaking of the other activities activ-ities of the organization, Mr. Math-is Math-is mentioned the fact that few people, peo-ple, realized that the Legion and Auxiliary distributed fourteen Christmas baskets to the needy of this community. Legion officers are particularly anxious that the ex-servicemen of this district join the Legion. They point to the many valuable services ser-vices that the organization does net only or the service men themselves them-selves but also for the communi-; communi-; ties in which they are a part. It is the special desire i of the local group that they "go over the top" on their memberships before the next District meeting which is to be held in Beaver some time in April. "The American Legion and Auxiliary," said Mr. Mathis, "Is doing many things for you. Help them to do more by joining your local legion organization." |
