Show Directors Elected At I C. of C. Meeting; Officers Appointed : An enthusiastic group of civic I leaders met Monday afteraoon in ; the Wadsworth theatre to hear the secretary's report and elect ; officers for the St. George Cham-; Cham-; ber of Commerce for the coming year. The meeting was opened with the secretary giving his report, which appears in full on page three of this issue. It was then decided to nominate nine directors direct-ors and let them select their own officers. The following men were nominated and unaminously elected: elect-ed: Gordon Whitehead, R. M. , Reber, Maurice Miles, Joseph J. ; Milne, C. W. Love Jr., William Mosley, Hyrum Thomas, B. Glen Smith and George H. Lytle. I Considerable discussion arose over possibilities of securing the j building of the Snow Canyon road Q. and the roads in the east end of thA r.nuntv. Manv of those pre sent felt that there hadn't been 1, enough done along this line and ' it was suggested that the new board appoint 'an individual to jj take that as his particular project for the coming year and see if a( some action couldn't be secured, oi The question ot public meetings also was given consideration. The members of the past board told o that they hadn't had any success ),. in getting people to come out to these public meetings and pointed - . to the small group that always 3 turned out fsr the election of offi- 1 cers. However, it was felt that if ! the various clubs and civic or- I ganizations would get together ! that it might be possible to spon- 1 sor luncheons or banquets and I have a general discussion of the problems that were confronting I the board of directors and the f steps that were being taken in working them out. I Another suggestion that the I group .felt that might get better 1 results would be to draw on the 1 general membership for commit- I tee work instead of the board members handling all of the de- p tail. It was pointed out that at least the members would have a f better conception of the projects I being undertaken by the board. Since it was pointed out that the P Chamber is limited in the amount of work that can be done with I the limited money available it was I suggested that the membership I fee be raised to $5 for individual I and in proportion for business houses. Attention was drawn to the fact that other cities have a j much higher fee, Cedar, it was said, had a much higher rate and ' . because of this they were able to employ a secretary 'that could devote more time to the work re- 4 quired of this position. J Directors Meet II The new board of directors held t its first meeting Tuesday night at J 6 p.m. in the county superintend-i superintend-i ont's office and chose the follow-j follow-j ing officers: R. M. Reber, presi-'. presi-'. dent; William Mosley, vice-presi-j dent; B. Glen Smith, temporary i secretary; C. W. Love, chairman j of the roads committee; Hyrum Thomas, membership committee; Edgar R. Simpson was appointed by the board to fill Joseph Milne's 5 position since Mr. Milne said he "j would be unable to give the time required. |
