Show Alumni Association To Honor Outgoing And Incoming Presidents ?J - NT ' H 1 t (COURTESY SALT LAKE TRIBUNE) PRES. B. GLEN SMITH President Smith Tells Of Association With Dixie By B. Glen Smith The Dixie junior college has been nationally recognized as a two-year college for 15 years; in 1923 the institution became a charter member of the American Association of Junior Colleges. It has been my privilege to be associated as-sociated with the school during this period of years, 10 years as instructor and five years as its administrative head. During that (Continued on pa;' five) ; President Smith (Continued from first page) time I have seen the school grow slowly but surely under three administrations. ad-ministrations. ! During the first of' the five years I have been at the helm, the enrollment became exceptionally high; but during the next four years there was again a gradual drop. However, the number of students is still above that of six years ago, the peak up until that time. It is with regret that I have been unable, with all the help I have been able to muster, to keep the enrollment up. I believe be-lieve firmly, however, that our enrollment depression is over; for conditions that have caused the depression are greatly improved. In all other phases of the work of the college I feel there has been consistent growth. We are now established as a four-year four-year junior college, which I feel should do more to assure the permanency per-manency of the college than any other single thinG I believe I have been wise in offering my resignation at this time. The nature of the administrative adminis-trative work during this five-year administrative period has drawn heavily upon my physical energies, and I feel that I shall be happier serving as an instructor in the institution. I am convinced that the State I Board of Education has made a wise choice in naming Glenn E. Snow as my successor. I pledge him 100 per cent support, and it will add to my hapiness to see him build a bigger and better Dixie junior college. I am happy to work with him in accomplishing accomplish-ing this. |
