Show State and County D. U. P. Officials Attend Hew Harmony Dedication Mrs. Kate B. Carter, state executive execu-tive of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers arrived in St. George early Tuesday morning, to meet with the county and local officers of the same organization prior to attending the dedication of the Fort Harmony monument at that place at 2 p. m., the same day. A meeting was held at the home of Mrs. John W. Pace, the cus todian of the McQuarrie Memorial Me-morial hall, and county officers were instructed on various items in connection with their work. At 11:30 a.m., five cars left for New Harmony to attend the celebration, including besides Mrs. Carter, Rachel L. Lytle, Josephine B. Pace, Anna Jennings, Vilate Wadsworth, Minnie M. Mathis, Lorna Worthen, Ella J. Seegmil-ler Seegmil-ler and Hazel B. Braa'shaw of the county officers; LaPrelle Snow, president of the Foster camp, with the camp orchestra members, mem-bers, Delia Pearce, Emma Hem-inway, Hem-inway, May Whipple, Mrs. Sam Fullerton and Elizabeth Chadburn, also Geneva B. Schmutz, Beatrice Harper, Mattie M. Cannon, Julia Graff, Effie M. Syphus, Nan B. Turnbeaugh and Mrs. Isaiah Cox. County Captain Rachel L. Lytle reports a most interesting program pro-gram connected with the dedication, dedica-tion, with the history of old Fort Harmony being given by Mrs. Orson Hammond, and the life sketch of Independence Taylor Tay-lor given by LaVerna Taylor En-glestead, En-glestead, talks by the state official of-ficial visitor, Kate B. Carter, and by Pres. William R. Palmer of Cedar City. Music numbers included in-cluded congregational singing, selections se-lections by the Foster camp orchestra orch-estra of St. George, a song of old Fort Harmony by a ladies' quartet, and solos by Marion Prince. The marker was dedicated by Bishop James Prince of New Harmony after which the entire assembly was served a buffet lunch in the New Harmony chapel. Pioneers present included Independence Inde-pendence Taylor, Martin Woolsey and John Piatt, Mr. Piatt was born at old Fort Harmony. |
