Show James L. Bunker Dies Suddenly At St. George Home Speakers Pay Tribute to His Character, Ability and the Work that He Accomplished; Accomplish-ed; One of Veyo's Pioneers James Bunker, Dixie pioneer, died in his home last Sunday Sun-day evening, November 8 while listening to his radio. His wife was in the room at the time and was unaware of his passing at the time. The physician who examined ex-amined him state that death must have been instantaneous. He died at approximately 8:30 p. m. Funeral services were held in the St. George stake Tabernacle Taber-nacle at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon with Milton Bowler of the Veyo ward bishopric conducting. George F. Whitehead of the St. George Temple paid tribute to the Bunker family for their integrity in-tegrity and faithfulness to the work of the Lord. He stated that he knew him as the bishop of the Veyo ward and knew his family and had always admired (Continued on page four) JAMES L. "They were so devoted to the work of the Lord that their leadership lead-ership created interest and enthusiasm en-thusiasm throughout the ward. His advice has helped many and they will be greatly missed", Bishop Bowler said. Pres. W. O. Bentiey paid high tribute to James Bunker as the founder and builder of the community com-munity of Veyo. for his work in the bishopric of that ward and for his work in St. George. President Presi-dent Bentiey told of the admiration admir-ation he had felt for him during dur-ing the twenty years he had known him as a churchman, a stockraiser, farmer and citizen. Henry Bowler of the G unlock ward spoke of the great joys that had been his through his association as-sociation with James Bunker and that he regarded his life as one worthy of emulation. He continued con-tinued by saying that Mr. and Mrs. Bunker came as near living the religion taught as any couple he had ever known. Patiarch Martin Bunker of the Moapa stake gave some quotations quota-tions in condolence and comfort to the family. He mentioned a telegram received by the family from President Young of the Manti Temple. He praised Mr. Bunker for his "matchless personality per-sonality and his ability to accomplish ac-complish worthwhile things in life". George Chadburn of the Veyo ward bishopric expresssed his appreciation ap-preciation to the life of James Bunker. "His life has been a shining light wonderful personality. person-ality. May we live the gospel fully and may the Lord bless the family in their sorrow," he said. Burial was made in the city cemetery the grave being dedicated dedi-cated by Patriarch George W. Worthen. James Bunker was born December De-cember 1, 1861 at Ogden, a son of Edward and Sarah A. Browning Brown-ing Bunker. He came with his parents when just a small boy to Toquerville where they lived for one year. They were then called to Santa Clara where Mr. Bunker presided pre-sided as first Bishop of the Santa Clara ward. He went with his parents to Bunkerville where they made their home for some time, later 'going to Annabella where he met Miss , Kate Nordfors to whom he was married in the Manti Temple in April 1889. To this couple two children were born, both of whom passed away at an early age. They later adopted adop-ted a boy. Mr. Bunker served as a counselor to the Bishop of the Annabella ward for two years. They lived at the Bigelow ranch for five years and was a couselor to Bishop Holt of Gunlock for ten years. They were called to the St. George Temple and filled a two-year mission from 1909 to 1911. In 1913 they moved to the place which is now Veyo. They were the only family there for some time and later others moved in who helped with the Veyo ditch 'which was then started. They moved to St. George four years ago. Besides his wife and son he is survived by the following brothers bro-thers and sisters: William E. Bunker, Manti; Clifton T. Bunker, Bunk-er, Delta; D. A. Bunker and Mrs. Delia Lisondbee, Long Beach, California; Martin, John and Robert Rob-ert of Las Vegas; Ezra, Francis and Mrs. Mary Cox, Salt Lake City; Hector Bunker, Bunkerville, Silas Bunker, Arizona and Viola Earl of Overton, Nevada.. |
