Show ARMY AVIATORS LOCATE SCOW OF IDAHO COUPLE GRAND CANYON, Ariz. Aviators have found the scow in which Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hyde of Hansen, Idaho, attempted to shoot the Colorado river riv-er rapids. Location of footprints near the boat indicated that Hyde has disembarked to examine the waters ahead before proceeding below Ruby Canyon rapids. Hoping to pick up further traces of the stranded pair, rescuers pushed push-ed farther along the tortuous course of the river but no report of finding additional marks left by the thrill-seekers thrill-seekers has been received. Emery Kolb, pioneer of the canyon region, was heading a band following follow-ing the river from Diamond Creek to Separation rapids. This party used a crude boat, but the searchers believed be-lieved they would be able to reach the scow that the aviators reported stranded on a sand bar. Kolb's party will be met Thursday by a pack horse expedition farther down the river. The rescuers hoped to find a message at the abandoned scow or some indication of the route the adventuring couple intended to take when they left their homemade home-made craft. Sixty-seven days ago the Hansen, Idaho, pair embarked on a thrill hunt. They intended to "shoot" the Colorado's formidable rapids in their sturdy scow and make port at Needles, Nee-dles, Calif. When they failed to arrive ar-rive according to their plan, concern con-cern for their safety arose and searching search-ing parties were sent out. |
