Washington Washing-ton co . i ii f v teachers was held at Zion park Saturday, March 31. The autumn w.v.ion '.'-a:, held at Enterprise, and the mid-winter avembly was in St. Oeorsjo. The liachers of the cast end of the county elecied to entertain their guests at the canyon this time, which proved to be the most f:ttini place for the sprint; reunion. Everyone was assembled in the canyon can-yon at eleven o'clock for the meeting. .Sixty-live people were present, nine schools being represented. President Vernon Worthen took charge of the first part of the meeting, which was devoted to business problems of the teachers' league. The latter part 'of the meeting was turned over to recreation. recrea-tion. The program was as follows: Group singing under the direction of Karl Larson and Elvis B. Terry. Dramatization of The Three Billy Cloats Gruff by the Hurricane school. Series of stunts and songs from the Woodward school. Imitation of the Ford, Toquerville school. Stunt from Springdale school. Comic songs furnished by trio from Hurricane school. The "Three Billy Goats Gruff" was well presented. All characters interpreted inter-preted their parts well. Those present could see that this was a product of much careful and energetic coaching. The audience was pleased to learn that the goats accomplished their purpose pur-pose in crossing the bridge they grew fat, It has always been generally understood under-stood that a wealth of talent lay within with-in the Woodward faculty; but no one dreamed that it existed in such alarming alarm-ing quantities until they came forth with songs, banjo solos, step-dancing, marches, etc. and etc. Everybody was highly entertained. The entire assembly was sent into spasms of laughter by the perfect im-itiation im-itiation of the "Ford." Springdale contributed much to the merry making by their exceptionally clever stunt. Appreciation for the Hurricane trio was shown by the hearty applause which greeted them. They received several encores. After the meeting a thirty-minute intermission was declared. During this time people roamed through the canyon can-yon at leisure. At one o'clock lunch was announced by the wild jangling of the cow bell. The tang of the mountain air seemed to have bequeathed be-queathed upon them a craving for food. Guests were asked to furnish nothing for lunch but their appitites that proved sufficient. Tables were decorated decor-ated with blossoms and lunch was pronounced pro-nounced "super-delicious." Toasts were given during the meal. Paul Thurston made a very witty and envrtaining toastmaster. The afternoon was given over to vanoui '...ci ts. A ba.-:bail game was j a very inu.-res.ting feature. j At six o'clock the crowd had moved on to the La Verkm hot springs for a j bath. Forty of the sixty-five guests were participants in the bathing beauty revue. At seven thirty o'clock the cow bells again called out, and by this time people peo-ple knew its meaning. A mad scramble was made for the out-of-doors where lunch was being served. After lunch, the crowd took part in group singing. Later in the evening exhausted teachers bade each other goodbye and separted for their homes. The day was considered a great success. suc-cess. It is felt that much good has been derived this winter from the meetings of the teachers of the county. |
