Show REPRESENTATIVES OF TRIBUNE JOIN IN FLYER SEARCH A striking example of the length to which a modern newspaper news-paper will go to give its readers first-hand, authentic information was the coverage of the Salt Lake Tribune of the search in this section sec-tion for Maurice Graham, Western West-ern Air Express mail pilot, who has been missing since last Friday night. Within a few minutes after the receipt of information telephoned into Salt Lake by the Washington County News that a search was being be-ing organized in the vicinity of Leeds, above which community Graham is reported to have hovered hover-ed from 1 to 3:30 a. m., Saturday during a heavy storm, the Tribune had chartered a plane and two men were standing by at the Salt Lake airport awaiting the lifting of the storm before taking off. When nightfall came with no sign of the elements relenting, the two men, Burl Armstrong a staff correspondent, and Noble Warrum Tribune photographer, decided to take the slower but surer means of travel and left Salt Lake at 6 p. m. by automobile. Driving all night through a raging snowstorm they reached Cedar City at 2 a. m. Contact was made with St. George early Monday morning and the two newspaper men met members mem-bers of the searching party at Anderson's And-erson's ranch shortly after 10 o'clock. Photographs were taken and that afternoon, a 2000 word story containing first hand information, infor-mation, secured on the actual scene, was on the wire and Tuesday Tues-day morning the Tribune was able to give its readers a story based on facts to which the representatives representa-tives were eye witnesses. |
