Show NORTH RIM ROAD TO BE KEPT OPEN ALL WINTER The widespread demand of the American tourist for facilities that will ! make available to him the multiform l beauty of these western mountain fastnesses, fast-nesses, is expected to result in accom-: accom-: plishment of a new feat during the coming winter. j It is announced by Supt. M. R. Tiil-otson Tiil-otson of Grand Canyon National park j that for the first time in history an a:- tempt will be made to keep open the l road leading across the Kiabab plateau to the north rim of the Grand canyon j to permit continuous trucking of sup- piles for construction of the So50.O3 hotel project of the Union Pacific Sys-j Sys-j tern. I The hotel is scheduled to be com-' com-' pleted at Bright Angel Point for the opening of the tourist season next June, which means that the roads from Cedar City must be kept open. Snow plows were put in use on the road recently when the plateau was buried under 18 inches of snow. Heary snows and freezing temperatures tempera-tures have heretofore discouraged eren the most venturesome from entering the isolated north rim from October to May. |
