Show SCOUTS PREPARE FOR CEDAR MEET In District Contest Here Last Friday South Ward Scores Highest; West Ward Second About sixty local scouts will leave for Cedar City Friday for the scout so-parovan. so-parovan. Last year Mr. Bigelow's Cedar City troop won first place in the meet, but St. George hopes to retrieve re-trieve lost honors this year. The three local scoutmasters will accompany the boys. B. Glen Smith will officially represent the central committee. He will respond to a toast at the annual banquet, and will conduct the color exercises each morning and evening. The three troops of St. George held a district contest at the city park last Friday afternoon in preparation for the events which are to be featured in Cedar City. The following is a summary sum-mary of the results: Morse signaling: Tell Gubler, troop 1, first, scor.e 83; Dean Malmgren, troop 3, second, score 74; Calvert Whitehead, troop 1, third, score 72. The possible score was 85. Semaphore signaling: Howard Whitehead, White-head, troop 3, and Eldon Adams, troop 1, tied for first, score 160; Lloyd McArthur, Mc-Arthur, troop 3, third, score 159. Possible Pos-sible score 160. Fire by friction: Fergus Wallis, troop 1, first, time 21 seconds; Tell Gubler, troop 1, second, time 56 seconds; sec-onds; Lowell Adams, troop 3, third, time 5 minutes 32 seconds. Cooking: Ivin White troop 3, first, Lowell Adams, troop 3, second; Eldon Adams, troop 1, third. A large group of Nevada Scouts are expected here early tomorrow. They will stop off on their way to the So-parovan So-parovan at Cedar City. At eleven o'clock they will be entertained at the Dixie College devotional exercises. At noon they, together with the Scouts of St. George and Santa Clara, will be treated to a free dinner by the College. Col-lege. The dinner will be prepared by the local troops and will be served on the square. Immediately after dinner the entire group of Scouts will leave for Cedar City. They will be joined at Anderson's by the Hurricane boys. |
