Show ENTERPRISE Enterprise, Dec. 13. Joseph Fish died at his home here on Friday, Dec. 10 after quite a long illness. He was a son of Horace- Fish and Hannah Han-nah Leavitt, born at Twelve Mile Grove, Will Co., 111., June 27, 18.40. He is survived by two wives, Eliza Jane Lewis and Julia Ann Reidhead, and twelve children, Mrs. Francis Korker of Yachats, Oregon; Mrs. Del-Phine Del-Phine Smith of Snowflake, Arizona; John L. Fish of Lakeside, Arizona; Horace N. Fish of Los Angeles, Cal.; Silas L. Fish, Snowflake, Ariz.; Joseph Jos-eph S. Fish, Salt Lake City; Roland W. Fish, Snowflake, Ariz.; Wilford P. Fish of Enterprise; Mrs. Hannah Busha of Enterprise; Miss Addie Fish of Enterprise; Jesse L. Fish of St. George and Mrs. Delma Alger of Enterprise. One wife, Mary Steel, and eight children preceded him in death. He has one brother, Franklin Frank-lin Fish, living in Oregon and 50 grandchildren. He came to Center-ville, Center-ville, 12 miles north of Salt Lake City when 10 years old, moved to Parowan in 18 53 when 13 years old, and started teaching school when 17 years old. Was married to Mary Steel in 18 59. He fought in the Black Hawk war under James And-rus And-rus is 1866; worked in the cooperative coopera-tive store at Parowan; went on exploring ex-ploring expeditions; taught school; did some surveying; run the co-op store and sawmill; was justice of the peace and lawyer until - 1878, when he moved to Arizona. He was one of the main ones to start the A. C. M. I seore.at Holbrook, Arizona, and worked there until 18 93 when he took his second trip to Mexico but came right back and settled in Gila valley, Ariz. Was elected, in 1894, to the legislature for two years. Moved back to Utah in 1916, where he lived at Enterprise. He had a light stroke of paralysis Feb. 2, 1926, and had poor health until the 3rd of Dec, dying December 10th. He was a great historian, wrote several histories, History of Arizona, History of the West, and since he came to Utah in 1926. he vv--,V :T active member of the church all his life. |
