Show ACHIEVEMENTS OF FISH -GAME CLUB Washington County Receiving Due Recognition from the State Game Commission Conservation of fish and game in Washington county has been uppermost upper-most in the minds of the officers of the Washington County Fish and Game Protective Association since its organization last spring. The streams of the county have been restocked, a game warden has been appointed, and many problems affecting af-fecting wild life of the county have been taken up with the state commission com-mission and satisfactory solutions worked out. So far this year one tank load and forty cans of fish have been received for release in the Enterprise Enter-prise reservoir. These fish were from 3 to 6 inches in length. Twenty cans were salmon trout and the balance rainbow. In the past two years, 1927 and 1928, but one tank was received for planting at Enterprise. Enter-prise. At Pine Valley one tank and 20 cans of rainbow trout have been planted during the summer. Two more tank loads are promised this year and will probably be released there. Twenty cans of fish have been placed in South Ash and Quayle creeks. Twenty more are coming for release in these streams. Until this year these creeks had not been restocked for three years. A rearing pond was established at Hunt's ranch on Santa Clara creek and 20 cans of fingerlings were placed there the fore part of July. These fish, under protection, are thriving and will be released into the creek in the fall. The club was instrumental in the screening by the Dixie Power Co. of the ditch above No. plant. Another An-other screen has been placed above the diversion point in Quayle creek at Silver Reef. This was done at state expense upon recommendations of the club. The organization has recommend-that recommend-that deer, which are damaging crops in the Pine Valley section, be taken care of, and the congestion on the preserve relieved. An open sage hen season was secured in Washington county through the efforts of the club. In conjunction with cattlemen's associations the club is now working work-ing out a project of salting the preserve pre-serve for the deer herds. Twelve deputy game warden badges will be received shortly, to be distributed dis-tributed among members throughout through-out the county who will serve without with-out pay. |
