Show RODEO SPECTATORS CAUGHT IN CONFLAGRATION FRIDAY Salt Lake City. Fire which threatened threat-ened the lives of 10,000 rodeo spectators specta-tors demolished the grandstand at the state fair grounds Friday, causing caus-ing damage estimated at $50,000. No serious injuries resulted, although man ypersons were bruised, cut and scratched. Fourteen automobiles parked park-ed in the rear of the stand were destroyed. de-stroyed. Cowboy riders turned heroes he-roes as the great wall of flame swept over the closely packed rodeo fans, many of whom were burhed at the back of the neck as they fled. The stand, surrounded by a screen of thick, black smoke, was consumed like a cracker box, and an hour after the outbreak of flames nothing was left but a pile of cinders, out of which conspiciously stood a couple of girders, the presence of which probably prob-ably saved the lives of thousands, since the stand remained intact until the crowd had milled its way to safety. |
