Show 1MXIE WINS FROM I5.V.I". "15" TEAM IN OVERTIME THRILLER Dixie won an overtime thriller from the "B" team of B. Y. U., by the score of 43 to 44. The score was tied at 41 all at the close of the regular period. Dixie's first team outplayed the visitors during the second half to go into a 10 "point lead at one time but started to slip when they lost Empey with a sprained ankle and Pectol via the foul route. It was quite evident from that time on that the Dixie college reserves will need considerable time spent on them to bring them up to the standard of the first team which consisted of Pectol and Sullivan at guards, Schmutz at center, and Empey and Wilson as forwards. for-wards. Schmutz gives promise of being be-ing a mighty fine player, playing a nice game at center and repeatedly re-peatedly getting away from his guard to sink set-up shots. Pectol, Pec-tol, will, without doubt, again come up to the game he played during last year to capture honors hon-ors on the Rockey Mtountain conference con-ference team. Dick gives promise prom-ise at the other guard position and teams in nicely on the passing pass-ing attack. Empey and Wilson, while rather short for basketball players, have spuee'd, and fortius for-tius early in the year, show a nice eye for the basket and good passing. This year's team lacks the heighth of last yeaT's, and in consequence will have to make up for this by following the ball all of the time and on the offence by speed and clever passing. pass-ing. Dixie fans report themselves pleased with the way the boys . worked the ball under the basket bas-ket for set-np shots instead of each trying to star. This will help to overcome some of the advantage in heighth that they will quite likely give to their opponents. AH in all, fans were quite pleased with the game displayed -by the boys, considering that this was their first practice game of the season. Naturally they will have to show considerable improvement if they are to be in on the championship game and something will have to be done to develop the substitutions. substitu-tions. Several of the boys that were substituted gave promise of developing into fine -players with a little more practice and instruction in-struction from Coach Hafen. |
