Show LOCAL 4-H LEADERS RECEIVE TRAINING Mrs. Whiter F. Smith, Miss Rose Seegmiller, Miss Karma McGregor, Mrs. Wm. H. Manning of Toquer-ville Toquer-ville and Mrs. Stanley Bradshaw of Hurricane returned Saturday from Logan where they attended the 4-H club leaders' training school conducted conduct-ed at the Utah Agricultural College from March 4 to 9. Twenty counties of the state were represented at this school. The people peo-ple who attended were persons from the various counties who were very much intrested iriVnroper training of boys and girls in their community. These leaders volunteered to act as local leaders of 4-H clubs for the year. They gave their time and services ser-vices free, with the hope that they would be able to contribute something that would help the boys and girls of their community to more fully appreciate ap-preciate the finer and significant things of rural life and to make themselves useful citizens. These leaders were given training in the methods of organizing and conducting 4-H clubs They also were given training in the project in which they were most interested, each lead-; er being enrolled in one of the following fol-lowing classs: Clothing, foods, home management, dairy, poultry, swine, sheep, baby beef, potatoes, sugar beets, garden, grains, or other special spe-cial crops. A special feature of the school this year was the recreation classes which were conducted the afternoons and evenings of each 3ay by John Bradford, Brad-ford, director of the playground and recreation association of America. Mr. Bradford is now employed by the United States department of agriculture agricul-ture to conduct recreation classes in all the states. A special campfire pro-rgam pro-rgam was given one evening by Mr. Bradford. Another special feature of the school was the presentation of the Camp Plummer trophy flag at the regular chapel at 1 p. m. last Wednesday. Wed-nesday. This flag was presented by O. M. Plummer, manager of the Pacific Pa-cific International Livestock Show, to William Peterson, director of the Utah agricultural college extension service. This flag is given by Mr. Plummer to the state which makes the highest score at the interstate 4-H demonstration contest, which is held at Portland each year as one of the features of Camp Plummer. Five states were represented at this contest in . 1928. The two teams entered en-tered from Utah made the highest average score of any state. This entitled en-titled the Utah extension service to the flag for one year. Miss Caroline Eyring of Pima, Arizona, Ari-zona, who won the- H.- A. Moses trophy, tro-phy, was also in attendance. The Moses trophy is given each year to the champion girl 4-H club leader in the United States. Miss Eyring was awarded the trophy in 1927. i i |
