Show how srrcii longer must we PUT UP WITH THE TRAIL ACROSS THE STRIP? llrITH the approach of spring and ii another tourist season, some thought must be given to the deplorable deplor-able condition of the Arrowhead highway high-way across the northwest corner of Arizona, and an effort should be made to secure action that will lead to the building of this import-ant link between Utah and California. The stretch of 17 miles is nothing more than a trail. All maintenance work has been stopped by the Arizona Ari-zona highway department, and during this winter the condition of the road has gone from bad to worse. In addition, ad-dition, the present narrow, winding path is dangerous, and unless something some-thing is done to correct this evil, it will be the means of diverting travel to other and more desirable routes. Over a million dollars has been al- j lotted the state of Arizona by the ! federal government for roads. This becomes available in June. If communities com-munities along U. S. 91 make a concerted con-certed effort to have a part of this sum used on this route, something j may be accomplished, but if we sit back and do nothing the money will, in all probability, be used on other roads in Arizona. Both Nevada and Arizona have improved trans-continental highways across the states, and travelers can not be expected to use a road that is rough and dangerous and where there is no pretense of maintenance. |
