Show UTAH HOUSE PASSES COMPACT By a vote of 46 to 7, the lower house of the Utah legislature late Tuesday passed a bill for unconditional uncondi-tional ratification of the six-state Colorado river compact, paving the way for the construction of Boulder dam. The bill, engineered by Representative Represen-tative Louis J. Holther, chairman of the special Boulder dam committee of the house, now goes to the senate. Prior to the final vote, almost the entire Salt Lake delegation, with others throughout the house, sought to delay action until toward the end of the session. Representative David A. Hirschl of Washington county, made an impassioned impas-sioned plea for immediathe ratification. ratifica-tion. "To be consistent," he said, "Utah should ratify at once. Bringing in the Flaming Gorge and Dewey dams at this eleventh hour is illogical, and anything but acquiescence in this project at this time Is not in good faith." |
