Show U.S. INVESTIGATES ENVELOPE PLANT Avalanche of Propaganda Results Re-sults in Action by the Senate! I Post Office Committee ! j Acting on motion of Senator Mc-iKellar, Mc-iKellar, ranking minority member, the senate post office committee has authorized auth-orized a special committee to investigate investi-gate the Middle-West Supply Company Com-pany at Dayton, Ohio, the outfit which j prints the government envelopes. The S investigating committee consists of Senators George H. Moses, chairman; Senator Phipps of Colorado, and Senator Sena-tor McKellar of Tennessee. Chairman Chair-man Moses fixed March 22 as the date for the investigation at Dayton. It is understood that the McKellar motion was based upon the avalanche of propaganda coming into Washington Washing-ton as a result of the activities of the Dayton Chamber of Commerce reported report-ed to be acting as agent for the Middle-West Supply company. Senator McKellar expects to inquire into the influences back of the anti-publisher anti-publisher propaganda, as well as to make an intimate study of the manufacturing manu-facturing plant, which prints the government gov-ernment envelopes. It is regarded as an advance forward in the consideration considera-tion of the legislation sponsored by the National Editorial against government govern-ment competition in printing because it is the Dayton forces that are reported report-ed to have been spending enormous sums to oppose the legislative activities activi-ties of the publishers' organizations. Some senators are said to have stated stat-ed they are cognizant of conditions in the various parts of the country where users of government stamped envelopes enve-lopes are following the advice of the Dayton Chamber of Commerce in attempting at-tempting to have the publisher withdraw with-draw from his support of the Oddie bill through economic pressure. |
