Show ahe I 1 he high water clork ork hl hi aliar the high water the past week hafi ban caused much excitement through this part of sweetwater county and thousands of dollars damage has blen been done to the county as well as to individuals the warm weather the latter part of last week caused the thawing of the ice and snow along bitter creek to the cast and late saturday afternoon the creed creek through the city began to rise for a time no danger was feared but about seven last saturday evening an ice pack was formed at the railroad bridge and the water was higher than at anytime any time in the past thirty years the fire department was called out and with the help of numerous of out oui citizens many persons persona living on the east I 1 lat and along the creek bank were taken through tho the from their hornes homes and saved from drowning during the entire night a corps of men were kept busy dynamiting the ice jams which were continually forming along the creek on sunday morning the water began to subside but in the afternoon again rose to the high water mark but as most of the ice hid had passed down the stream but little additional damage was done on monday morning the wooden bridge on bridge avenue n vas as carried away and after safely passing under the iron bridge on K street lodged against the railroad bridge where it was promptly dynamited thereby preventing another brocade blo cade to the people of the city of rock springs the most serious question brought out by the ahe flood was the washing out of about three hundred feet of the pipe line between here and green river at 6 40 on wednesday morning A large force of men immediately put to work to repair the break and it was not until friday morning that the final coupling was made leaving the city er dependent upon the water in the reservoir for about forty eight hours no inconvenience was experienced by our people by this break as the water in the reservoir was ample to supply every need As an extra protection to property the members of the fire department spent the enone nights of wednesday and thursday inthe in the central fire station the teams were kept hitched to the wagons and had an alarm been turned in a record run would have been made |
