Show jessie ewing canyon last week tho the high mogul as aa our junior partner pleased to call me in ia the last issue ideue of the in the company of L johnson wm mccaslin aud and W H gagon visited th the e ma mining i district of jessie edg en ing cunyon we left vernal tuesday afternoon and before getting out of an easy walk to town a vote was taken hakea and anc unanimously carried that any ono of 0 the party who would get mad at any remarks made by the others would have his tobacco taken away from him and be obliged to ride ou on the wagon between the horses the consequence was everybody was good it natured and had a jolly time A small supply of SUYO pop on rattlesnakes rattle snakes was taken along but as aa there was plenty of mosquitoes to do the biting and cic adias to do tho the rattling it did not last long the camp was reached wednesday evening and thursday was spent in looking at the mines or rather prospect holes as there are no mines minea opened up yet although the prospects are good tor for some valuable mines in that locality in tho the near future the formation is composed of conglomerate quartz jasper and mica schist and stands nearly perpendicular the vein carrying the alleged tin ore lies on the north side eide of a large ledge of quartz conglomerate and is about six eix feet thick and can be traced for miles and all staked off the tha only done to amount to anything to show what is in the vein la is a shaft about thirty feet deep on the last chance black and beaty are running a cut on their claim and are taking out some come very good copper ore these gentlemen are not spending their time in running around and trying to gobble up everything in a sight but are putting all their work on the oue one claim the X claim is a relocation of the old defsie dwing mine which had a foot tunnel run ran into the hill bill by an eastern company whom ewing represented the now new owners have driven a foot incline above the old tunnel and alid have about fifty tons of copper oi e on the dump and plenty more in sight bight laona aej webber have so on oral cral claim near the X but have struck no permanent vein excepting in the black rock kock which carries a black aln g gy looking ore that they do not know whether valuable or riot not the jack knife is a good copper prospect and has about ten tons of if oreon ore on the dump from a twenty five foot chaft the above mentioned props ct may with further development prove to be a paying mine and work on it will bo be commenced rommon ced immediately by the owners who are confidant that thoy they mill ill strike it rich when a little more depth is attained several other prospects wore were visited and a great many missed im as our time was limited but we were assured by the men in the camp that what ye bad soon seen and what is mentioned above was a fair sample of the work done in the canyon anyn that good paying mines fl ill be opened in that locality at some parly early date is an assured tact fact mineral bearing nock can be picked up everywhere and with the untiring energy that is displayed by the gentlemen who aie are prospecting that country the vein or lodo lode from whence this mineral came is sure to be found ahe canyon lies about two miles north of green river or about three miles mile i from the jan ie ferry in browns park it is easy of access being about forty miles fron from the U 1 P r aud and about sixty miles from vernal with a good mountain road loading leading to it from both ways at the present time the mosquitoes moke make life a burden to the hardy prospector and tiny any one contemplating visiting jessie ewing canyon should before they start lay in a supply of arnica or sheet arun clothes as aa the writers fancy were ivere punched full of holes by the troublesome insects while vie ae were there john jarvie the genalo gont gonikman kman man who runs the ferry has a store where he be leeps a good stock of general merchandise to supply travelers tray elers and the ranchers who live along the river mr jarvie was not at home when we crossed his ferry but george law and mr jarvies little boys took us rapidly across the boys are bright little fellows and are always busy on somo some experiment in the blacksmith shop testing ores or forging pieces of iron into some tool they have acquired a knowledge from their father had from books upon mineral that enables them to converse upon the subject with an intelligence inteli gence above the average prospector in their explorations along the river this spring they had found some wild goose eggs and transferred them to a hews hens nest and the old hen hatched out three goa go slings lings they also had bad a wild gander they raised three years ago who was waa the big chief of the barnyard mr law gave us some very vary valuable information in regard to the resources of browns park which was highly appreciated the mineral products are gold silver copper tin and iron in order to show us that the storm that there was gold in the sands of green river nver is true he took a pan of sand from the rivers bank and washed it out and it showed plenty of colors of gold some as large as a pin head all of the bars along the river are s said aid to carry gold but it is of the kind known as flour gold and is hard to save there is a large depos decosi of garnets in jossie jessie ewing canyon and jasper of all colors which takes a beautiful polish aad may sometime some timo in tho the near future be a source of revenue to the citizens of browns park A strata of lithographing litho graphing rock is found in the tha lower end of the park but it is difficult of access it was our intention to visit the red lied crook creek mines while in the park but over which we had no control prevented it the mines are about six miles milea from the ferry and are said to be richer than the ones in jessie ewing canyon but carry the same minerals rals the tin ores found in red creek and jessie ewing canyons runs all the way from aj 2 to so 80 per cent tin and it if the tests are correct browns park will have the richest mining camp in hasten i utah and as ise several Teral gentlemen in vernal who have spent a great deal of time and money are j interested abere in the above mentioned prospects the excites 3 wishes them the success to which they are justly entitled |
