Show obituary EDITOR JOURNAL we have once more been called on to record the death of one of our number viz I 1 levi J waite who after a severe I 1 sickness of fifteen days succumbed to the inevitable at his home in dayton oneida co idaho the cause causa of his death was typhoid fever the subject of this thia sketch was born at gosberton Gos berton lough clough lin coln coha shire england eagland april jtb ath 49 years ago lie ile emigrated to utah in in the year 1869 oct obeyed the C gospel the same atar year at willard boxelder Box elder co in which p place aiace he lived until the spring of 1871 when he moved to cache va ley located at hyde park and lived abee abe e for a number of yeara beare here he married subsequently be moved to five mile creek now dayton idaho where he made his home and became identified with the people of that ward it is eleven years vears since he lost his wife through confinement and was left with five little children the baby survived its mother six months only the following year lie he married again and as a result of the latter marriage five child ren were born whose ages range from nine years vears down to the two months old baby who are now left without their theil natural crotee to tor r misfortune seemed to mark hirn him for her own for in his him brief life he be has had trials and disappointments enough to appa appal 1 a less sturdy heart ile he struggled through failure of crops drought loss of stock poverty bickness and death through it all he struggled on hoped on and his naturally tu buoyant and cheerful spirit never failed him and his faith in tho the gospel and the future was wag immovable his hospitality was proverbial his native honesty a byword by word his word was his bond and if levi J waite ever broke his word with either friend or foe it was because circumstances made it impossible for him to keep it ii his liberality was unbounded the Et strangers rangers wi bere were ais as fre freely ely su supplied as those of a blood relation he delighted in helping others what lie he accumulated of this worlds goods may may have been limited but of that limited quantity many have shared freely and without price his sermons spoke in deeds his hia prayers in actions in september of the present year his oldest son was called to fill a mission A few days before the time to go he was stricken with typhoid fever for two months subsequently the smaller children took it then his oldest daughter hence lie he had si sickness akness for three and when all thought in a short time they would be well the father worn out with nursing and watching his family for nearl nearly y three months to took k the fever he was illy prepared for the attack of so mal malignant g a diE disease ease hence his enfeebled condition made him less lebs impregnable and death claimed him as his own on wednesday last november the funeral services were held at the home of the deceased when the bis bishopric hoDric and leading elders of i the ward testified of his faithful nets and goodness of heart A large cortege followed his remains to the grave ile he was wag quietly laid to rest beside his faithful wife who had prece proceeded eded him eleven years at the weston idaho cemetery he died as he had lived a faithful latter day saint farewell t brother levi sleep in peace eternal riches are thine A widow nine children and a host boat of friends are left to mourn his loss JOBS yours respectfully JW hyde park nov 20 1897 |
