Show obituary EDITOR JOURNAL it becomes my painful task to record the death of one of our most respected citizens friends brother husband and father niels christensen Cliris lensen the ilie subject of this sketch was born february alst 1839 clarup clamp aalborg amp coun county tyl denmark ile he received the gospel as taught by t the he latter day saints in 1833 being but fourteen years of age and was baptized by J P johnson and confirmed by elder willard snow was ordained to the priesthood two years subsequently and a year later sent out to preach the gospel to hit his countrymen in ill which capacity he labored for about one 3 year ear with great zeal and energy when he be was nas released to migrate to utah in 1857 lie ile crossed the plains a distance of 1500 1500 miles it in the band handcart cart company and suffered the hird bird ships chips incidental to such a journey and arrived nt at salt lake city september 13 11 of the same year lie he married annie Ras in ill 1858 and three years years later moved to cache valley li hence shared the trials and deprivations that those only know who hae experienced the life of a pioneer he assisted to make water ditches ditche canyon roads school and meeting houses and temples in a civil capacity lie he has held during his hie life the office of school trust trustee ce and justice of the pence peace and filled tile the position as director for different din erent corporations wi with th honor to himself and satisfaction tu his constituency As an ecclesiastical officer he be was all one could expect or hope to attain to full of faith and good works from the earliest histo history ri of hyde park lie lias has been a very active teacher also has had charge of the scandinavian scandinavia meetings and for several years b been een mccon second d counsellor to dishop bishop II 11 daines in 1890 he returned to his native laud land on a short inis mission sion in search of genealogical data and re returned the same year three days belore before his death on sunday e benini ee ening nini I 1 lie he bore a faithful testimony to the gospel monday eve evening ning he was stricken down with a severe attack of spasmodic colic which proved fatal within IS 48 hours drs ormsby and baker was summoned to hi bif t bed sid side e but after diagnosis n of the case chev concu concluded ded there was butone chance to r save ave his life and that a doubtful one viz viz an operation however beffie the operation brother christensen made his will and prepared for or the inc inevitable with a firm faith in him that boeth all thin things J well although I 1 skill and kind friendt friends did all within their power but alas death and marked its victim for its own and it was but a few hours subsequently that our friend was no mere he leaves a wife two dau daughters liters and seven grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn liis his loss hie clift funeral Fer services vices werch were held eld in the ward meeting house appropriate prop and consoling remarks ar were e made by elder james hurren presidents orson smith and S M L molen C D fjeldsted lorenzo hatch dr ormsby and bishop C U hyde it can call be truly said that brother brothe r christensen was a true friend a kind husband a lovius catli father a wi wise C counsellor and a faithful latter day saint gods noblest work an honest man pea peace ce to his ashes yours respectfully J 11 ill PARK dec 1st ast 1894 deseret news and scandinavian pap papers ers please copy |
