Show CORRESPONDENCE. Interesting Items From Our Own Contributors. Brigham City. A short time since, whilst one of our citizens, Pat Benson, was turning water upon a piece of land he was struck in the face with a hoe by a man named Lindall, which inflicted a severe wound, the blood flowing copiously. Lindall had been accused by Benson of taking water out of his turn. The injured man caused the offender to be arraigned before his Hon. (Honorable) P.F. Madsen. The accused being afraid full justice would be meted out to him, made affidavit that he believed the judge was biased against him and asked for a change of venue, which he was granted. The case was set for hearing before Justice Baty of Call's Fort. On the morning of the trial, Lindall was suddenly taken ill. Dr. Davidson was sent for, who it is said, gave a certificate setting forth that Lindall was sick and unable to appear. The brave man, however would appear; he had a bed put into his wagon and started. He continued to fail as he neared the place of trial, and by the time he arrived was apparently unable to speak. The Justice humanely postponed the trial till the 25th ult. On the homeward trip, Lindall recovered very rapidly, in fact, when he reached his own yard he was able to jump out of the wagon, unhitch his horses and take care of them. Further comment is unnecessary. |
