When parents wish to send their boys away to school they are often urged [?] to have them confined to the narrow limits of boarding-school rooms and yard, or else allow them to be subject to the temptation of a city or large town. A few years ago there was a boarding school known as University Mound College, situated near San Francisco, but it was thought best for various reasons, to find another location. The property at Litton Springs, situated in Sonoma County, Ca. [California], four miles from Healdsburg, was purchased and the name of the school was changed to Litton Springs College. This boarding school for boys has now been in successful operation at its new location for one year and the results have justified the expectations of its patrons. The property consists of three hundred acres of land partly wooded and partly open. The college buildings and grounds are said to have cost over $75,000. The buildings are beautifully situated on elevated ground about a quarter of a mile from the depot which is about seventy miles from San Francisco. Mount St. Helens with ranges of hills and mountains are in full view toward the east. On the north there is a variety of wooded hills and valleys. The country south and west of the buildings is rolling. The climate is delightful and a more healthy location for a school could not easily be found. Out of study hours the boys can safely be allowed to roam over hill and vale as there is no town or liquor saloon anywhere in the vicinity. Parents who wish to combine thorough mental training with moral discipline and healthy bodily exercise can not find a better boarding school for their boys than Litton Springs College. • The deepest coal mine in the world is Ashton Moss, Eng. Testimonials: San Francisco, Aug. [August] 27, 1879. Gentlemen - I received a package of your soap (Phosphate Soap) and it gives me great pleasure to testify as to its superior excellence. As a toilet soap I have never seen anything to surpass it. It also possesses superior remedial qualities. I have used it in two cases of obstinate skin disease, one of intolerable itching, Pruritus, the other an Eczema. In both great relief was obtained. Its emollient properties are remarkable. Respectfully, W.A. Douglass, M.D. 126 O'Farrell St. [Street]. To the Standard Soap Company. San Francisco, July 18, 1878. Standard Soap Co. [Company] - Gentlemen: The ladies of my household, four in number, unite with me in pronouncing your Phosphate Soap the best ever tried for toilet use.
