Show TERRITORIAL NEWS. The manufacture of blasting powder is to be commenced in Ogden. Record. A mining exchange has been opened in Park City, for the sale of mines on commission. We learn from the Democrat that Apostle C. C. Rich was able to attend and address a priesthood meeting held in Paris on the 2d (nd) inst. (instant). Jarad Dalton, lately convicted, in the Second District Court, of the murder of Mrs. Parker, an old lady, has been sentenced to 12 years in the penitentiary. Record: On Sunday, April 2d (nd), a miner named Bradley, fell twenty-five feet to the bottom of a shaft about four miles from Park City. He was severely injured and was sent to the hospital in Salt Lake. One darkey chased another in Salt Lake the other day, and fired four shots at the range of but a few feet from the object of his pursuit, but missed his mark every time, or else hit it on the head, as the target was uninjured. News, 9th: Mr. B. W. Nowlin, of this city, met with a serious accident on the street yesterday afternoon. He was standing in the vicinity of Walker Brothers' corner, when Mr. Howard Sebree drove by in a buggy. The horse, shying to one side, struck Mr. Nowlin, knocking him down and trampled upon him before Mr. Sebree could get command of the reins. Two ribs were broken, and the injured man was conveyed home in a serious condition. He will likely recover, but not for some time. Mr. Sebree regrets the accident as much as anyone, and is entirely blameless for its occurrence. Vice and petty crimes seem to be increasing in Salt Lake. The police court is kept busy. The News of the 11th and 12th has the following items: Business has been very lively today in this court. The following cases were disposed of: Two cases of disturbance were fined $5 apiece; two of profanity and drunkenness $20 each; one assault and battery, $5; two of drunkenness, disturbance and profanity, $10 and $15 respectively; one of disturbance and profanity, $10. A number of arrests were made last night: A man and woman for lewdness and prostitution, and three others, including one woman, for drunkenness and disturbance. A woman keeper of a house of assignation was before the Police Magistrate this morning. She got a good talking to, promised to do better, and was permitted to "go and sin no more." Thirty-two prisoners were lodged in the penitentiary last Sunday. Twenty-two of them were of the Silver Reef strikers. The Herald says: The other ten prisoners brought up at he same time, and convicted and sentenced at the present term of the court, are as follows: Jarad Dalton, convicted of murder in the second degree - the assassin and ravisher of old Mother Parker - sentenced to twelve years in the Penitentiary. John B. Stevens, who killed Hillburn at Grapevine Springs, on the 4th of July last, convicted of voluntary manslaughter, and sentenced to four years in the Penitentiary. Ellis Peese, Jason B. Webb, David Gorge, Joseph Moyes and J. R. Phillips, convicted of housebreaking at Beaver, and sentenced to two years each. William Tanner, convicted of mule stealing, and sentenced to three years. John Harris, convicted of cattle stealing, and sentenced to eighteen months. - Edwards, convicted of burglary at Milford, and sentenced to three years and six months. |
