Show CO-OPERATION IN MARSH VALLEY. Editor Leader-A few of the brethren of this ward met at Bishop M.L. Gruwell's house Feb. [February] 1st, to adopt preliminary measures towards organizing a co-operative company, to do a general merchandise and manufacturing business. On Feb. 2nd, a general meeting of the brethren was held in the school house at Marsh Centre, when articles of association were adopted, and an organization was effected. The capital stock was placed at $15,000, in shares of $3 each. The institution will be known as the Marsh Valley Branch Z.C.M.I. manufacturing and stock company. M.L. Gruwell, Peter I. Waddell and David Burnett were chosen a committee of three to draw up a constitution and by-laws, the same to comply as nearly with the United Order as circumstances will admit. Wm. [William] Woodland was elected President; Wm. Henderson, Secretary; Wm. Capell, treasurer; M.L. Grumell, Wm. W. Woodland, Wm. Henderson, Peter I. Waddell, and David Burnett were elected Trustees for the company. The trustees appointed M.L. Grwell to act as Superintendent of the company. Throughout the meeting, and I may say, throughout the ward, there is a very good spirit and feeling respecting co-operation, as is shown by the number of shares taken. On Feb. 3rd, the trustees bought the stand of A.U. Hobson, in Oneida city, Idaho, as the first active step in starting business, and the general expectation is that there will be a lively and extensive business done by the company, who intend to carry a stock that will supply all local and transient demands. With the capital and unity that are in this valley, good results may be expected in time, in other branches of industry, for the people are really in earnest in their efforts to do good. Thanks are due to our worthy Bishop, who is leading out in a praiseworthy manner, for the good of the people in Marsh Valley ward. Respectfully, David Burnett.
