Show THE LOGAN MINSTRELS. This newly organized company gave its first entertainment in Logan Theatre on Saturday evening last, to a good house. The jokes, &c. created considerable laughter. Mr. King proved himself an excellent clog dancer. Mr. Matthews sang a song, "The Tramp," in an effective manner. The little Meley? Mcley? children danced charmingly, and won an enthusiastic encore. Mr. Harris came upon the stage with the be best of intentions, no doubt, and manifested an earnest desire to make the people laugh - which they did. With practice and study he would make an excel? "darkey," and he "plucks the strings" very well. But he rather out-did himself this time. The attempt of one of the performers, who had a Scotch brogue as broad as the side of a barn, to deliver a Negro stump speech, produced an effect that was exceedingly comical. The audience laughed a great deal, sometimes from one cause and sometimes from another. The minstrels purpose [propose] making a tour of the settlements of the valley immediately. They perform in Logan again to-morrow (Saturday) evening. |
