Show SURGICAL OPERATIONS. From the Salt Lake Herald, we clip the following in relation to two very important surgical operations which were performed last week: On Sunday a very delicate operation was performed on the person of Mrs. E. L. T. Harelson, it being the amputation of the left breast. The operation was necessitated by the growth of a large cancer. Dr. Benedict performed the operation, assisted by Drs. Smith, Thompson, Williamson, Ormsby, of Logan, ?? and Mrs. Dr. Pratt. So far the operation was a success, the lady feeling very easy and relieved. On Monday, another very difficult and dangerous operation was performed by Dr. Benedict. This was on a son of Mr. Menkin, of Wanship. The lad suffered from a tumor, of five months standing, in the upper jaw. The removal of the tumor necessitated the cutting out of the whole side of the right upper jaw, extending back to the throat, including the bony support of the eye and the right half of the bony part of the nose, together with all the teeth on the right side. Up to the time of writing the boy was doing remarkably well, and strange as it may seem, was able to speak shortly after the operation had been concluded. He will soon recover, and there will not be a very great disfigurement. There were present at the operation Drs. LeCompte, post surgeon at Fort Douglas, Ormsby, of Logan, Smith, Young, Hamilton, Fowler, Williamson, Thompson, Bane, and Mrs. Dr. Pratt. |
