Show RAILROAD NOTES. Within the last two or three weeks there have been several slight accidents on the Utah & Northern. No person has been hurt seriously but several cars have been ditched. Broken rails caused all these accidents and no possible precaution of the company could have prevented them. The intense cold renders the rail brittle and occasionally one will break while a train is passing over it. By extra exertion blockades have been either prevented entirely or made of very brief duration. The longest delay of a train by a blockade in this winter has been but a few hours. An abundance of coal was distributed along the road early in the winter and no inconvenience has been felt from lack of fuel as was the case last winter. Owing to icy rails &c. a helper has had to accompany passenger trains over the divide for several weeks. |
