Show YOUNG LADIES M.I.A. BALL. On Monday ??? next the Central Board of Y.L.M.I.A. will give a grand ball in Canlon's Hall. The affair will be conducted entirely by the ?[Ladies], so we are informed, and if such is the case, there is no doubt of it's success. The pictures and decorations in the hall, put up for the last ball, will remain. They give the room a neat and tasteful appearance. RETURNED. Bishop M.M. Hammond of Providence returned home last Friday night from Colorado and New Mexico where he has been engaged in railroading since last spring. Richards and Lorenzo Snow came to Logan on Wednesday last, and in company with Apostle Moses Thatcher, paid a visit to the Temple. JUST ARRIVED at ?[M]. On Thursday of last week, two officers chartered a job wagon and ?? in it the person of one Wm. [William] ?[Ruder] to the hotel de Bell. The recipient of this courtesy had been for three days ?[engaged] in a ?[immature]?[celebration] of the ?[holidays], to the utter disregard of that sobriety which should characterize all good citizens. On ?[Friday] he was taken before Judge ?[?ranney], charged with drunkenness. "Mr. Judge, I pleads not guilty to the charge." Said the defendant. "Why ?[Ruder],"said an officer. "I can produce a dozen witnesses who will swear that you have been drunk for three days." "Oh is dot so?" said the defendant." "Well then I pleads guilty." The Judge made it $7.50. The select Christmas sociable given by the Central Board of the Y.M.M.I.A. came off in Cardon's Hall on Monday evening last. The Hall had been nicely decorated with ?[p?taes] and evergreens, and the musicians' stand was draped with the ?? colors. The company was not large, in comparison with the capacity of the Hall, but it ?[contained] the elements necessary to make the affair ?[successful] and thoroughly enjoyable, and many remarked the social congenial and pleasant ?[spirit] that prevailed. The ?[last] ?? was finished at five minutes past twelve when the company ?[departed]. OVER 509,000 Charter Oak stoves have been ?[made] and sold in the last thirty years. FINGER AMPUTATED. Some weeks since Mr. Edward Newbery, ?[owner and] proprietor of the Logan Meat Market, scratched the second finger of his right hand on a bone. Blood poisoning resulted and the member became greatly swollen and intolerably painful. On Thursday last amputation became necessary and the finger was cut off between the first and second joints. The rumor spread among Mr. Newbery's friends, that he had lost his hand but such is not the case. We understand he is progressing very favorably. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. On the evening of the ?[24th] inst.[?instant] The Logan fire company held a meeting for the annual election of officers. The chief is appointed by the city and he selects two assistants. The elective officers are, foreman, assistant foreman, secretary, treasurer, and steward. The election resulted as follows: Foreman M.H.Farnes; assistant foreman B. Farnes; secretary N.W. Haws; treasurer Geo. [George] Cole; steward Waker Cole. FIREMAN'S BALL. On Friday evening, Jan.[January] 6th, the Logan fire company will give a grand dress ball in Logan Hall, Proceeds to be devoted to the ?[purchase] of articles needed by the company. Our ?[fire] boys are the fellows to get up a good time when they try, and the success of their ball is assured. Z.C.M.I. has the best soap in the market. Buy some while it is cheap. RUFFIANISM IN SALT LAKE. From the News we learn that on Monday last a gang of ruffians fired by ?[Kjuor], created a disturbance and gave on officer who went to arrest them a terrible beating. The guilty parties were placed in custody. THE MONARCH OF THE FIELD. The California Wilcox improved iron harrow with steel tooth.
