Show Lehl Pioneer Do til. Jnmcs P. Carter, an honored votcran of Lehl, passed away last evening after a lingering illness of three mouths' duration. His birth placi- was In Clut-ton, Clut-ton, Somersetshire, England, and bo hnd passed tl.o ago of throe score years and tun. lie became a member of the Mormon church In 1818, and with his wife, emigrated to Utah In 1801, since which time he has resided lu Lehl. Having boon hit seed with exceptional musical talents, ho has been accepted as authority on this subject for many years, and ninny of our citizens owe tholr knowledgo if nunlc to his teaching. teach-ing. For twenty years he was tho leader of our tabornaclo choir, Mr. Carter aUo took a great Interest lu cducafloti, and for thirteen years was Identified with our public schools In thu capacity of school trustee. His Urst wife died flvo years ngo, and two years later lio married Mrs. Amy Smith, lato of England, who, with ono sou mid three daughters, all miifrkd, aro left to mourn tl'o loss of a devoted husband and u fond parent. During his long illness ho was never known to murnier. His burial will take placo tomorrow at 1 o'clock, and tho funeral services will bo hold lu the meeting housu at Zlon's hill.
