Show HAY STACKER. Derrick Which the Farmer Can Make for Himself. Tho derrick consists of two principal parts, a revolving boom polo or crnne, which swings In a complcto circle, and a frame work for supporting tho crane. The crnno part Is made with an upright up-right mast 25 foot long and ten Inches in diameter at the base, with an Iron band nnd Iron pivot pin nt tho base; pivot pin should bo IVi by 12 inches or larger. This mast supports a boom pole 33 feet long, five inches In diameter at small, upper end. It should bo bolted to top of mast, 11 feet from tho butt. The top should bo About 32 feet from Hay 8tacker. Lower bi'urlng. tho ground when In position. This boom polo should bo supported by a pair of long poles for tho top and a pair of shorter poles at tho butt as braces. The butts of theso braces should bo bolted to tho mast at about tho center, ns shown In diagram. A pulley should bo hung at each end of tho boom pole. Tho baso of tho supporting framework frame-work should bo of two poles about eight Inches In diameter nnd 18 feet long, tho understdo of each end rounded round-ed up, sled-runner style. Theso polos should be IS or 16 feet apart. Near each end a cross pleca about six Inches In diameter Bhould bo bolted, also a heavy cross stick ncross the center 10 or 11 Inches In diameter. Tho upright up-right mast Is pivoted to tho center of this stick, forming tho lower bearing. Tho upper bearing should be about 11 fet-t higher, made of a platform, four feet square, of plank two or three inches thick. This Is supported by posts nbout Ave Inches In diameter, Uio baso of tho posts bolted or toenailed toe-nailed to tho sled runner, near each end of runnor nnd about 14 feet apart. The tops of the postB support tho upper up-per platform of plank. Tho center of tho platform Is cut out to receive tho rpvolving upright mast forming tho upper bearing. It Is better to protect pro-tect tho mast at this place by a thin steel plato about G to 12 inches or larger, also it Is better to hnvo two plates at bottom of mast with holes for the pivot pin in center of tho plate. To gtvo tho supporting framo-work additional strength and stiffness, explains ex-plains Hoard's Dairyman, It is usual io attach two long braces from the bottom of each of tho four sides to the opposite upper corners. A ropo of pure manlla thrco-fourths or sovon-eighths sovon-eighths Inch slzo is largo enough, It harpoon or other horso forks aro used throe pulleys and 80 feet of ropo aro sufficient; 115 foet and four pulleys, pul-leys, If slings are used. |
