In that way they stimulate their soul, they harden their nature, they increase in-crease their fortitude and strengthen strength-en it with an energy without whiclv they .would have been unable to fulfil ful-fil their high destiny. Men always begin by- committing faults,. before they can correct themselves. them-selves. They, at first, feel anguish in their hearts; they are hindered in then purposes; . and then t they succeed. It is only when they have read upon the faces of other men, and.heard-wbat they say, that they areenlightened upon themselves. If, in the State there are not good men to help the Prince to .govern, and if, outside, there are not kingdoms king-doms to create wars, or other calamities, calam-ities, the State, perish fronj inanity. |
