Show Of all the low-down beings that exist on this mundane sphere, the hypocrite must surely be classed as low as any of them, for he is a most contemptible being, weaving his snares and "ctting his allurements allure-ments to captivate and catch all within his grasp, in such a way that there is little or no use to try to get free from his poisonous fangs, until you are so badly stung that you are glad to get rid of him ! The hypocrite is always pretending to be something that he is really not, always has a most smooth and enticing tongue, and, unless you watch him, he is sure to win his way into your affections to your utter destruction ! The good old book tells us "It must needs be that offenses come, but woe to them by whom they come," and so it is with the hypocrite. A hypocrite may run along most smoothly for a short time, but his end is sure to come, sooner or later, then it is "woe to him" indeed, for when he is found in his true colors, he is soon compelled to move on and sink into oblivion. How much better it is to be honest than to be a hypocrite! What joy the honest in heart are blessed with in having a conscience devoid of offense ! not so with the hypocrite ! He knows his hypocricies and knows his hands is not clean ; he knows his conscience is not devoid of offense, for he goes about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may de-.'vour, de-.'vour, until, per adventure, his conscience may become so seared that it has no feeling, only for self and as long as the avoricious self is satisfied, all works weli; but if he gets nonplused in one way, he is sure to try another crook to make his nefarious ends meet, until he finds he is too well known to be countenanced, coun-tenanced, before he will begin to slacken his endeavors for evil. So beware of the hypocrite at all times and in all places. |
