The flflf43 f Saints seem to be well satisfied with their loca- H tions in the Salt River Valley, and arc in hopes V J ' some day, not far distant, to sec one of the most H beautiful cities in Arizona, built by the Latter- W ' . day Saints, in the Salt River Valley. HHf There was a circumstance that occurred at V Hackberry, before we left, that I will briefly cx- m . plain for the benefit of your readers. I have, on two different occasions, While pass-H. pass-H. . ing through Hackberry, been requested to speak on the first principles of the gospel, and have re c ' sponded. On my return from the Mohave Val- '' ley to Hackberry, January 16, some of the citizens of that place invited me to speak in defense of piurl marriage. I accepted the invitation and at early candle-light was at the house where I was r .to preach. The people came in slowly and when a number had gathered I commenced to speak. All went on quietly until I began to bring up a proof to show that monogamy or the one wife sys- I . . tern was not the doctrine of the early Christian " Church, and was not taught in the Bible, ' but it , had its origin in Roman Paganism, and that it had becn-perpctuated by Roman Catholicism. This did not seem to agree with my hearers, for some of them became very insulting, the meeting bro- ken up without being dismissed, and brother Hinkly and myself went to our sleeping place. As for myself, I do not feel like accepting any , . more invitations to preach to the Gentiles, but feel HV e : ..to confine my labors more to the House of Israel. I remain your brother in the Gospel. HH H- Llewellyn Harris. |
