L Pope and anU wife of Salt I Lake Lake Lak left immediate th tb to Attend i i- funeral eral I II I q r I II t. t I t 4 at I a e S x 1 I r I IJ J tJ The whole community here is deeply grieved at Mr Popes Pope's dea death h. h His early childhood was spent Inthe in inthe inthe the Bear river country Idaho At seven years of at age with the family he went to Vernal to live and has resided most of the time since in the Uintah basin At the age of 20 he was married to Minnie Holdaway of Vernal and to this union was born four sons eons one and daughter The deceased has ever ever- been well known in the Uintah basin and in later years became well n over the tho state Several years ago for two consecutive terms he was a member of the lower lover house of f the Utah leg legislature and was re recognized there ere as a man of great force of character and Influence and ever stood like a stone wail against unwise unwise unwise un un- wise and extravagant legislation He was engaged In ran ranching and was also a competent tent surveyor and engineer was also engaged In minIng mining mining min min- ing and had much to do in the development development development devel devel- of and other hydrocarbons hydrocarbons hydrocarbons hydro hydro- carbons of the basin and his business business business busi busi- ness while in Los Angeles was principally prIncipally principally prin prIn- for the development of the mineral resources of this country He was a man of large comp comp e e- e I hension a keen foresight and a memory that made him a delight to his companions and which made his mind a storehouse of ot resources resources-a a laboratory of at knowledge that either in society or business Immediately commanded command d attention He h had d no academic education t on Like Lilie Lincoln and nd the worlds world's greatest men his education came from the mastery of ofa ofa ofa a few books and from his communion communion communion ion with with the inexhaustible fields of at nature where his knowledge came largely from first band experience I with what books bools he hau He is Is' of a a. distinguished family His uncle John Pope was the first commander of the army array of oC the Potomac Potomac Potomac Poto Poto- mac and had it not been for the jealousy and inexperience of his generals generals generals gen gen- he would undoubtedly have become one of ot the greatest generals of the civil war Mr Popes Pope's father an and ana mother were highly respected citizens of Vernal where they died a few years ago at ata ata ata a ripe old age His brothers Jhon T T. T. T Pope George Pope M M. B B. B Pope a and d Richard Richard Richard Rich Rich- ard Pope Pop are well wen and favorably known all over ver Utah and parts of Idaho Rock M.
