Show Many of the settlers fled, but a band of Quakers stayed on. When the Indians In-dians arrived they met them without arms, and explnlned that it was against their principles to fight. The Indians were puzzled, but Impressed. Im-pressed. Finally they withdrew without with-out doing any harm, but first presented pre-sented the Quaker leader with a number of white feathers. If one of these was shown on a house, they would know that it belonged to a Quaker, and It would be safe from their braves. Trace 'White Feather" to American Quakers Though the white feather is now regarded a3 a symbol of cowardice. It has an historic right to be considered consid-ered as a badge of bravery.
