Show IN TRIBUTE TO UINTAH BASIN MOTHERS Sunday May viI evil be observed d throughout the United States as a day set aside on which to do homage homage homage hom hom- age to our Mothers As we ve think of the Mothers l of the Basin who vho willbe willbe will willbe be honored on this day dayve we ve are reminded of the fact that many of those who vho helped establish homes here are beginning to leave us have in fact been doing so for the past several years It is 30 years or more since the majority of the pioneers established the first homes in the Uintah Basin or that part of it which was vas originally ah an I In Indian In-I In n- n di dian an reservation These 30 years have been hard years which have left their mark upon the mothers who vho have lived through them theIne Years of hardship and sacrifice sacrifice- years of hopes more often lost than I realized years full of all the human emotions years in which Mother was vas many times called upon to supply supply supply sup sup- ply the vital force to keep keel things moving Yes many of these pioneer Mothers are already gone Many of them theIn let us hope will vill be with us for years to come but as Father Time marches re re- relentlessly relentlessly on a good many of them w we ve e know v will continue to bid us goodbye So on this Mothers' Mothers Day let us give special thought to the pioneer Mothers Moth Moth- ers of the Uintah Basin Let us endeavor to repay them for some of the sacrifices of the past ANOTHER BIG PAY CHECK GOES OUT OUTs As s shearing time comes to a close and the last bags of wool leave for market another big slice of income income is is cut out of the Uintah Basins Basin's natural re re- sources But Uintah Basin citizens are not reaping reaping reap reap- ing the benefit Our hills and valleys furnish the feed which produces the bi- bi annual bi-annual annual income of the sheep industry but b by Y far the larger share o of f the profits go to Heber City Heber-City City and Salt Lake City We personally like the en who vho use se the Uintah Basin They are all fine fellows but they are not Uintah Basin residents We would like to see the time when the men who vho make their then move money in the Uintah Basin also spend it here when they build their homes here pay their then taxes tapes and buy their supplies in our counties Perhaps the men Iuen who vho use our ranges would not like to do this Perhaps they prefer H Rebel Heber ber or of Salt Lake City that is the their privilege But there are plenty of citizens who vho do live in the Uintah ah Basin who vho could use all the range available here for either sheep or cattle If the men who vho use our range do donot donot donot not want vant to become Uintah Basin citizens it is time f for r Uintah Basin ens to endeavor to use the theran ran es THE SCHOOL BOARD CLEARS ITS SLATE After negotiations of nearly a year and a half the Duchesne County Board of Education has finally finally finally fin fin- ally completed refunding transactions to clear its books of old and delinquent bonded indebtedness and at a substantial saving to the district Of all the things that h have been said of the Board or that might be said either true or untrue this much c can an be said with certainty No No body of men collectively or individually could have devoted more faithful or untiring efforts than has the Board Boar dof of Education devoted to the transaction just successfully successfully success success- fully closed Since this statement is is made by a member of the Board it v will ill perhaps be discounted by the reader considerably yet it is made not from the standpoint of a board m member but from the standpoint of an editor who vho is is appraised of all the facts and who vho is happy to make it in the form of a compliment to the entire Board Every major move of the Board for the past year 1 I I and a half has had to be made with the fact constantly constantly constantly con con- In in mind that there was vas a delinquent outstanding outstanding outstanding out out- standing indebtedness which must receive first feast con con- This indebtedness is now v taken care of not erased but refunded with new nev bonds on a systematic systematic basis for ultimate retirement Funds are areno areno areno no more plentiful now than they have been but since the uncertainty has h as been eliminated from the future what funds there are or orvill will vill be available ble bleI can henceforth be used on a definite and unhampered I ed program |
