Show I In the Spring a Young aYoung Mans Man's Fancy I k T I 4 r 1 x Y 4 0 1 lJ R 1 t. t MOTHERS MOTHER'S DAY OBSERVANCE Next Sunday our Nation will viII do honor to its mothers throughout the land as as' asit it has done for the past thirty We find from time to time years expressions expressions expressions of doubt as to the actual good or need of such a day It was vas created of course Couise with the idea of focusing focusing focusing focus focus- ing attention on the mothers who vho are responsible forthe for forthe forthe the procreation of life and the development of that life into useful citizenship 4 W hue there is no doubt that the day clay does actually actually actually ac ac- ac- ac focus attention on mothers there is a question as to it is the proper kind of attention Too often Mothers Mother's Day is just a day on which to present presenta a mother with some flowers a box of sweets or some other gift intended to please the feminine heart There is no objection surely to such a practice in too many ca cases es gifts for mothers are few and far be tween The doubt concerns the thought which goes I with the gift If a gift is merely the result of a national movement movement move move- ment carrying with it no real sent sentiment nent of love and honor it can give little joy to its recipient A gift has hasa a real eal value on Mothers Mother's Day only v when hen it acts as visual evidence of these sentiments in the giver So whether we ve offer gifts or not let us remember ber bel next Sunday that the real purpose of the day is the expression of honor love and reverence for our I mothers to be expressed by statement thought or action and to be folIo followed v ed up throughout the day and year Only with this spirit can the day have anything of lasting value IT 11 IS TIME IE WE VE KNEW THE FACTS Indications are that our state and Federal governments governments gov gov- are really committed to determined a effort effort ef ef- ef- ef fort to investigate and if possible help hell solve some SOUle of our problems here in Mr S. S D. D Margetts chairman of the state planning plan plan- ning fling board and two of the boards board's engineers have just made a personal inspection trip of Duchesne and part of Uintah county seeking visual and practical I information to supplement the technical information I being gathered in soil and water vater surveys Their interest interest in- in interest terest now nov seems to be centered around Blue Bench and and the Ouray valley What the out come of all the surveys and investigations investigations will viII be we ve cannot of course know All we ve can do at pres present nt is off offer r every cooperation to their efforts ef ef- efforts ef- ef forts to help us and in the meantime sit tight hoping that a solution will viII be found which will viII be advantageous advantageous to us all If it is found that the Blue Bench is worthy of a reclamation project and those now nov slowly starving to death on lands desire to be assisted in in moving to such a project it now nov seems probable that government agencies will vill help consummate the move If these thes possibilities are not found to be feasible feasible feas feas- ible then the sooner we know the facts and stop kidding kidding kid kid- ding ourselves about them the sooner we ve can begin planning our future accordingly We in the Uintah Basin have believed f for r thirty years that we ve have thousands of acres of good lands and quite sufficient water vater to properly utilize it If this is is so let us get the water vater onto it and start pro pro- If the on other hand the land is not productive productive tive or if getting the water vater onto it is not feasible and we ve find after all that the basin is a good Indian reservation reservation res res- res- res and nothing else let us find it out as soon as possible so that we ve may act accordingly One generation ration Of pioneers has already wasted its life with Nith little or no returns It is time we ve knew I the facts before a second generation follows the same I route The Planning Board the Resettlement Admin- Admin y the Bureau of Reclamation and others are again moving onto the ground to try to determine these facts We welcome their interest and urge them to use all speed in assembling and analyzing their findings We believe our citizens are ready and anxious ious bus to be guided by any solution they have to offer us ps |
