H Dern Der n the first Utahn ever to hold a cabinet position was vas buried with full military and masonic honors in in Mt Olivet tery National and state officials including President Franklin Delano Roosevelt other cabinet members Army officials etc were vere present at the ceremonies in the L. L D. D S. S Tabernacle and at the cemetery combining combining com cum I bining ning probably more notables th than n have ever eves b before fore been together under one roof in in Utah All of these came to pay their last respects to a man o of whom all all' have been justly proud G George orge Dern was vas governor of Utah for eight years and during that time h he e came to be known throughout through through- out the state as one in intensely ested in in the needs and pro problems of his people eoPle and willing villing to bend any effort for their good He was a great man with the kind of greatness that retained the common touch enabling him to meet and converse with any man on that mans man's level t without thought or danger of a 1 loss ass of dignity Hence his popularity throughout the state We in the Uintah Basin knew v an and d remember him himas as Governor Dern and have much to be thankful for forin forin forin in his help and interest in our ur t ted problems He addressed address address- ed us officially at the U. U B. B I. I C. C and other gatherings gatherings gatherings gather gather- ings he visited with us on an equal basis in in lodge and andon andon on the street and in of business h he e came to study our needs and he came to enjoy our i recreational eel ea- ea ti nal facilities and always he was vas the same lovable man a friend of the people Utah and the United States have suffered a great loss in the passing of George H. H Dern but during his life he gave us much which we ve can retain always |
