County finances in the past have necessitated the elimination of this expense from the budget, but as a result of the heavy advertising campaign last spring, preceding the auditors tax deed sale, the treasury is in a decidedly different condition, and though the county is far from being out of the hole, prospects are enough brighter, that the setting aside of a few dollars for reassuming this obligation of county road improvement is both wise and feasible. Our county roads are far behind the times, and the money spent on an improvement program should mean an actual saving in dollars to the taxpayers, who are virtually shaking their cars and trucks to pieces traveling over the roads as they are today. HEADING THE V. IS. I. C. Duchesne was honored last week, through the selection of one of its leading citizens, G. V. Billings, as President of the VXYl U. B. I. C. This is another one of those honors which carries with it, for the recipient, plenty of hard work, no compensation and far top inadequate thanks. Yet to lie the head of this, the Uintah basins biggest annual event; to see ones time and energy result in a successful gathering, bringing recreation and education to the basin people, and ad" vantageous publicity to the basin itself, must, when the job is done, and done well, bring a feeling of real pleasure. Me know Mr. Billings has the ability to successfully preside over the U. B. I. C. and we believe, a year from now, when his job is done, he will have that feeling. The Uintah Basin Industrial Convention has just been brought to a successful close; on the heels of that event came the Democratic state convention in Salt Lake City; before the Democrats were hardly out of the way the retail grocers took the front with their convention there; the American Legion and Auxiliary are now having their turn, with an estimated crowd of 700 g the state capitol; the Republicans follow the Legionaires closely, to make their choice between the six or more candidates for the nomination for governor, and other nominations, and appropriately, though accidentally, the Morticians of the state will convene in Ogden on the 24th. All of this spells a flurry and bustle affecting many of the citizens of the state, and incidentally spurring business everywhere, and with the tense political atmosphere born at the nominating conventions scheduled to live and grow lustly until after the elections it looks like we are headed for an interesting and busy fall.
