Show LET US RESOLVE- RESOLVE I There vill will be all sorts of New Nev Years Year's resolutions made today We will vill resolve to this and not to do that resolutions affecting many different things We hear a lot about such resolutions on New v Years Day Some of them we forget before the day is done and others we ve remember and try to keep throughout the year succeeding or not according to how v much Dutch we favor the resolutions and how hov weak or strong our determination to keep keel them A resolution we ve can all make and one one which should not be too hard to keep is the r to adopt and foster a more neighborly feeling among the towns to in the Uintah basin and particularly in Duchesne county Coming more directly to the point there has been present during the past a feeling of jealousy and antagonism antagonism an an- between bet Duchesne and Roosevelt which is anything but inspiring and inductive to progression To explain the situation is perhaps not hard The two principal cities of the county are fa fair fairly 1 ly well veIl balanced balanc balanc- ed as to population Roosevelt being somewhat some the larger Duchesne though smaller in population enjoys enjoys enjoys en en- joys a central location both as t to o population and geography and was vas consequently chosen a as s county seat when the county was vas first formed Roosevelt on the other hand is surrounded with lands more easily cultivated and with more accessible water vater and consequently consequently consequently conse conse- took the lead in business There we ve find lo located located located lo- lo the only surviving bank in the county and the largest mercantile establishments Each then has something the other would like to have hence much of the i reason Boson for jealousy coleus and antagonism but is is it a ju justifiable reason Community ty pride ride and the stimulus of progressive riv rivalry should exist in every town to which hopes to grow v but these can exist and still not destroy friendship i which rs is also necessary between neighboring cities with common problems to be solved such as exist in Duchesne Du Du- D Duchesne chesne county Since any community is only an assembled group of individuals the problem i is s after all an individual one and can be easily solved solve with individual The individual can resolve to put forth all effort effort ef ef- ef- ef fort to further his own o business or profession and still maintain a friendly attitude with his neighbor joining him in a common effort for the good goad of his I community Similarly he can resolve as a unit of his community to further the interests of th that t community ty again maintaining a friendly community attitude toward neighboring towns to for the good goad of the county or section On this principle our nation was vas founded and on it it has progressed and likewise on this principle principle principle prin prin- ciple can the Uintah basin build and progress for a happier and prosperous N New ew Year PREPARING FOR THE 1937 BOOM BOOM- The N New ev Year t to o almost every business institution institution means an inventory of merchandise or goods goodson on hand and a check up of the past Year years year's s business to see whether there have been losses or g gains sins and t to o plan activities for the coming year Such an inventory inventory tory would undoubtedly be a fine thing for all of us for after all we ve are all businessmen of a sort engaged in in the business of living and of providing i in n on one e way vay or 01 another a livelihood for our families amities In looking back over 1936 we find a o fine improvement improvement improvement improve improve- ment over previous in years almost all general con con- Money has been much more plentiful in all channels of business and industry Individual incomes incomes incomes in in- comes have increased for both the laborer and the farmer Even the share and bond holders have received received received re re- re- re increased dividends and in many instances dividends where none at all had been forthcoming for many years The depression according to our inventory apparently apparently ap ap- ap- ap gave up its strangle hold during 1936 and we find rather than advise as to how v recover recovery may be attained that our leading columnists are now v of of- fering their advice as to how v to ward vard off the dangers dangers dangers dan dan- gers of the coming boom for the fact that a boom isnow is isnow now nov in the making seems unquestioned We do not presume to give advice as to the proper prop prop- er reaction to a boom period Far better brains than ours are distributing such advice freely and probably probably ably it will vill take far better brains than ours to corI correctly correctly correctly cor cor- I intel interpret pret and apply this advice to r reap ap the potential potential potential po po- po- po harvest We do believe however vever that such advice is indeed timely and want to urge every one of our readers to analyze conditions carefully to look back hack eight or nine years and discover if possible the mistakes made just preceding the depression from which we ve have just emerged that they may not be repeated We welcome anything in the nature of boom times but do not want vant to boom our way vay into another depression |
