| Show Duchesne Pioneer Succumbs In Provo j Jackman Herrick of Duchesne one of the Basins Basin's first pioneers died Monday August after an illness of several months at atthe atthe atthe the Utah County infirmary in Provo Death came peacefully his doctor stated after he had retired retired retired re re- re- re tired as usual at 10 p p. p m. m Monday evening Mr Herrick was born in Athens Pennsylvania September 7 1873 He graduated from high school in Washington D. D C C. C and then entered entered entered en en- Leland Stanford University at Palo Alto California where he graduated with the former President Herbert Hoover in the class of 1896 He then went to Boston where he worked on a newspaper staff and continued with his law studies for about abolt 3 years after which he lie returned to Pennsylvania In Pennsylvania Mt Mr Mr H Herrick passed his bar examinations ex examinations ex- ex x- x and practiced law until until until un un- til 1903 when he went to the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota Dakota Da Da- Da- Da kota in the the year of its opening In 1907 Mr Herrick came to Duchesne took a homestead on and later bought the Halstead ranch where he has lived lived lived liv liv- ed un until til two years ago when his failing health compelled him to tose se seek k the milder climate of Anzona Ari Ar zona In the fall of 1933 Mr Herrick returned to Utah even poorer in health and entered the Utah County Infirmary at Provo where he died Monday August Surviving are arc three brothers Samuel and Richard Richard Richard-Peale Peale Herrick of Washington D D. D C.
