Show GOOD PROSPECTS FOR BLUE BENCH There is always a brighter side to every situation all and it looks like the if looked at from angles present present pres pres- ent economic economic situation and the may have their bright side for Duchesne County The Federal Government is is being faced with the necessity of handing out relief in one ne form or another to a large number of the farmers of the country and andis is beginning to look around to find some permanent solution to their problems to help them become self- self sustaining again Th The Blue Bench though it is a small area when viewed in in t this his light should never the less prove quite attractive for far fitting into some of the governments government's plans Thomas F. F Thomas register at the U. U S. S Land office in Salt Lake City reports that he is receiving a regular deluge of letters from various parts of the country particularly the areas requesting information about homestead opportunities Right I here in the basin we ve have dozens of families trying to tomake tomake make mak a living on lands which are so unproductive as to not be worthy of the water vater wasted on them There are from seven to eight thousand acres of good irrigable land on the on at least four thousand of which productiveness has already been proven and the balance of which is identically the same but has has' never never had water With the present possibility of rerouting the Duchesne River Exchange Exchange Exchange Ex Ex- change Canal it would be a simple program for the Federal government to buy the peoples people's equity in the poor lands they are now nov on move them onto the and let them pay payout out over a long period as the reclamation projects are paid out On the face of it at least this looks like a winning vinning game for everyone concerned The government takes families off the relief rolls and makes them again sustaining self-sustaining the families themselves regain their self-respect self and industry and the county and state are enriched by the transfer of what is now v waste land to productive tax-paying tax land There I are undoubtedly many who vho can find fault and stumbling stumbling bling hung blocks in this kind of a project but we ve have yet to hear a good sound reason why it could not be put across and surely the establishing of a hundred or more families on land of known kno productivity where they can build homes pay taxes and contribute to society is is a consideration worthy of the efforts of every citizen of Duchesne County and should be beof of great interest to the officials of the state MOON l LAKE A PARADISE Too few of the residents of Duch Duchesne esne County realize realize realize real real- ize the ideal conditions afforded by Moon Lake for recreation and rest Recent conversation with the owners of the resort there disclosed the fact that practically all of their p patronage comes from outsiders who vho marvel over the beauties of the spot and make reservations to come came again from places even as far as Los Angeles Citizens of the Basin are in in the minority as patrons of the place I There are probably three reasons for this seeming indifference to beauty First the people themselves here in in the basin are undoubtedly victims of the old delusion that the pastures on the other side of the hill are the greenest We are prone to overlook the beauty of our own o spots in favor of some more lnore distant distant dis dis- dis- dis tant scene Second there is not the supply of fish at Moon Lake that one would expect to find th there re Reports Reports Reports Re Re- ports on the water vater show that except for altitude it is as favorable to fish as Fish risk Lake and there is no reason why it should not provide excellent fishing The Fish and Game Club would do dovell well vell to see that there is some planting done there And last the i resort resort resort re re- re- re e- e sort managers at Moon Lake could do much toward vard increasing home patronage b by Y properly advertising the lake and its atti attractions actions The lake an and d surrounding surrounding surround surround- ing territory are of course public property an and d it jt is is not necessary to enjoy them to patronize patroni e the resort there Wherever people gather there are those who ho f would rather pay for ace than shift for themselves however and a little publicity would help L greatly l |
